Best Cafés with Bosphorus Views in Istanbul
One of the nicest things about Istanbul is sitting at a café by the Bosphorus, having a cup of tea or coffee and simply watching the ferries go by.
One of the nicest things about Istanbul is sitting at a café by the Bosphorus, having a cup of tea or coffee and simply watching the ferries go by.
Sometimes we make visiting Istanbul more complicated than it needs to be. Instead of rushing from one museum to another and trying to fit twenty places into one day, it can be just as enjoyable to sit somewhere nice, take a break and enjoy the view.
And the Bosphorus doesn't look the same everywhere. The view from Bebek feels different from Ortaköy, Rumeli Hisarı or the Asian side.
Here are a few places where you can enjoy a coffee, breakfast or Turkish tea with a view of the Bosphorus.
Mangerie Bebek
If you want to sit above the Bosphorus in Bebek, Mangerie is one of the places that comes to mind.
It is especially popular for breakfast and brunch. You can come in the morning, take your time over breakfast and then walk along the Bebek waterfront afterwards.
The menu isn't limited to Turkish breakfast. There are also salads, pasta, burgers and desserts, so you can easily stop by later in the day as well.
For me, the best thing about Mangerie is that it encourages you to slow down a little. The Bosphorus is right in front of you, Bebek is below, and there is always something happening on the water.
There is no need to finish your coffee and immediately leave.
Kale Cafe – Rumeli Hisarı

If you want something a little more traditional, take a look at Kale Cafe in Rumeli Hisarı.
It has been around since 1982 and is particularly well known for breakfast. Along with a traditional Turkish breakfast, you can find menemen, börek and a variety of hot breakfast dishes.
When you come here, don't just look at what's on your table. Look around you too.
Rumeli Hisarı is one of the most beautiful parts of the Bosphorus. Having breakfast next to the historic fortress while watching the boats pass by is one of those simple Istanbul moments that is difficult to recreate somewhere else.
If you're coming on a weekend, going a little earlier is probably a good idea. The area can get quite busy, especially when the weather is nice.
The House Cafe Ortaköy
If you want to sit right by the Bosphorus in Ortaköy, The House Cafe is worth considering.
What I like about this place is that the view doesn't feel far away. You can see the Bosphorus, the boats and the opposite shore right from your table.
You can come for breakfast, have lunch or simply stop for a coffee.
Afterwards, you can walk towards the Ortaköy Mosque and explore the area. If it's your first time in Istanbul, Ortaköy is an easy place to add to your itinerary.
You don't really need a special plan for it. Come to Ortaköy, walk around for a while, and then find a spot by the Bosphorus and sit down.
A Coffee Break in Bebek
Sometimes you don't need a full breakfast or a long meal.
If you're already walking along the Bebek waterfront, simply getting a coffee and sitting by the Bosphorus can be enough.
A coffee-focused place such as Arabica Coffee House Bebek Maestro can be a convenient stop before continuing your walk along the waterfront.
That's part of what makes Bebek nice.
On one side you have the Bosphorus, and on the other you have the energy of Istanbul. Even a half-hour coffee break can change the pace of your day.
Tarihi Çınaraltı – Çengelköy

If you're looking for a more local side of Istanbul, I'd suggest making your way to Çengelköy.
Tarihi Çınaraltı is not the kind of place you visit for a fancy café experience. It's more about sitting down with a cup of tea, having something to eat and watching the Bosphorus.
The place takes its name from the large plane tree that has stood here for generations.
You can order Turkish tea or coffee and stay as long as you like. If you're hungry, there are traditional breakfast options, menemen and other simple hot dishes.
What I like about this place is that it doesn't feel overly touristy.
Once you're in Çengelköy, it's worth taking a walk along the waterfront, exploring the neighborhood and then sitting down here for a cup of tea.
See the Bosphorus from Above at Otağtepe
This time, let's look at the Bosphorus from a little higher up.
Otağtepe on the Asian side offers a much wider view of the Bosphorus.
If you enjoy taking photos, you'll probably like the scenery here. You can see the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, the Bosphorus and the opposite shore all in the same view.
I wouldn't think of Otağtepe simply as a place to have coffee. It's better as part of a day exploring the Asian side of Istanbul.
And if the weather is clear, the view can be pretty spectacular.
So, Which One Should You Choose?
There isn't really one answer.
If you're staying in Istanbul for a few days, you can try different places in different neighborhoods.
After exploring Sultanahmet, you could head to Ortaköy and spend some time by the Bosphorus.
If you're around Galata and Karaköy, you might prefer to visit Çengelköy on another day rather than crossing the city just for a café.
Or you could spend a whole day on the Asian side and combine Üsküdar, Kuzguncuk, Çengelköy and Otağtepe in the same route.
Personally, I think the easiest way to choose a Bosphorus-view café is to look at where you already are that day.
Instead of crossing the entire city just to visit one café, it is often much more enjoyable to find a beautiful view somewhere along the route you're already exploring.
Don't Leave Istanbul Without Having a Coffee by the Bosphorus
Seeing Istanbul isn't just about visiting Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace or Galata Tower.
Sometimes Istanbul is simply getting off a ferry, walking along the waterfront, finding a café and watching the boats go by.
A Turkish coffee. A glass of tea. A long breakfast.
Sometimes, sitting quietly for a few minutes and looking out at the Bosphorus can become one of the nicest memories of your trip.
And if you're planning to visit several different places during your stay, this is where F&S Pass can fit naturally into your plans. Instead of building your day around one particular venue, you can choose from participating cafés, restaurants and experiences as you explore different parts of Istanbul.
So you might spend the morning around Sultanahmet, make your way towards the Bosphorus in the afternoon, and finish the day with a coffee or dinner somewhere along the route.
Because sometimes the best way to experience Istanbul is to stop for a moment and just look at the city.
